Universal Design for Learning

Universal Design for Learning was initiated by CAST which is the Center for Applied Special Technology and as they state, they have been "transforming education through universal design for learning".  What does that mean?

It essentially involves taking down the fences and roadblocks that can interfere with a smooth path to learning in planning, presenting, demonstrating and assessing.  This is clearly articulated by Dr. David Rose in a presentation you can review.

Educational Technology" is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources." (Januszewski and Molenda, 2008, p. )*.  It provides an avenue for creating great opportunities for universal design through assistive technology, videos, internet access which allows flexibility for learning.

Universal Design for Learning is an educational framework with three primary principles :                 (Source, CAST, at http://www.cast.org/about/index.html)

What we want is to see the child in pursuit of knowledge,
and not knowledge in pursuit of the child
